Cashew nut shell oil process
Natural cashew nut shell oil (CNSL) is a dark brown viscous liquid extracted from the shell of cashew nuts, a tropical lacquer family plant. In early development, CNSL was once abandoned due to its strong irritation and corrosivity. With the further study, it was found that the main component of CNSL was cardic acid (about 90%), in addition to 10% cardiotonic and a small amount of polymer. In the process of industrial extraction, cardanolic acid will undergo decarboxylation to produce cardanol, which is a mono phenol derivative with unsaturated or saturated long carbon chain (- C15H25-31), including saturated, monoene, diene and triene components (Figure 1). Cashew nut phenol has very important development and application value in the fields of coating, rubber and surfactant due to its rich resources, low price and other factors. It is a green chemical raw material with great development prospects. Recent research also shows that cashew nut shell oil has potential application prospects in medicine, biological composites, bacteriostasis and other fields. The processing and extraction reaction temperature of traditional cashew nut shell oil is high, and the refined cashew nut shell oil obtained has high viscosity and dark color. The cost of subsequent distillation and refining of high-purity cashew nut phenol is high, so its application is limited.
